Dear Friends,

We have a mind of the waves and a mind of the depths. The mind of the waves is concerned with what must be done; the mind of the depths, with what is. A movement from one to the other is part of our growth: the movement from frightened little child to Emperor.

While the Emperor has not ceased to act, he has ceased to be concerned with action. His only concern is with what is; the actions unfold within a great devotion to what is.

What is — this is always shining forth; the great obstacle to its reception, that we want it a certain way. But something within us longs for it — for in what is, our loneliness is gone. What is is undivided — undivided, for example, between observer and observed. (But not without articulation: washing dishes in what is, soap and sponge still have different roles.)

What is… the great I AM:

And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. (Exodus 3:13-14, King James Version)

Who is going to give you eternal peace? It is only the sun, that ‘I am’… (Sri Nisagardatta Maharaj)1
